What’s clever about the writing is that, Darbuka Siva, doesn’t stop with the love story, but explores the beautiful aspects and complications involved in the lives of every individual we come across in the film from the very first scene.
For instance, Chinese’s character is written beautifully. His love sequences with Anu (Amritha Mandarin) is a delight to watch. Amritha, who is well-known in the short-film circuit, has done really well and has perfectly put herself in the shoes of Anu. Catherine (Purva Raghunath), one of their batch mates, comes across as a girl with attitude and arrogance in the first half. But her backstory, that we get to learn later, melts our hearts. Not to forget, actor Rahul Kannan’s characterisation, from that of a loser to an LGBTQ activist, is something to watch out for. His performance is good and it takes a lot to pull-off such a bold role.
Actors like Varun Rajan, Naren and Sharan Kumar have also done a neat job. Gautham Raj’s comic one-liners have worked really well and keep us engaged throughout. Kishen Das as Vinoth remains with you for long as his contrasting performances in the first and the second half keep you hooked.
While the script and its characters are etched well and have no complaints, the only question is, why does every filmmaker who deals with campus flicks, eventually end the second half with a reunion?
Why do every incident or solution need to happen only during the reunion and not otherwise? Few sequences post interval do makes us feel that the second half could have been different and could have delved more on the individual characters’ personal lives with an interconnect instead of a reunion. But then, as the film progresses, the writing picks up again, making us understand the director’s intention. Oh wait! There is also a surprise fantasy element, a cameo, done by Darbuka himself.
The film also talks about what you actually want and how life would have been if some things are compromised at different stages of life.
Cinematographer Sujith Sarang’s colour tones, angles and hand-held shots have complemented the script well. Though not technically sound, it transports us to the world of the 90s and shows us exactly what the director wants us to see. Darbuka Siva’s music, too, lifts the emotions in the latter half of the film. Probably, the writer within him has helped to compose tunes that add some magic to the script. Overall, the film is definitely worth-watching and would be loved by the generation who miss their school days.

In the very first scene, Siva takes us to the first day of high-school, where friends Vinoth (Kishen Das), Chinese (Harish), Durai (Sharan Kumar) and Su (Gautham Raj ) wait outside their classrooms to check the list of new admissions.
All they want to know is the names of the girls and who would be their perfect match, even without seeing them! Within a few minutes, we are introduced to Rekha (Meetha Raghunath), whom Vinoth falls head over heels in love with. Their love in high school is innocent yet mature. In fact, some of the incidents that happen between the two have been done to death in Tamil cinema, but are still relatable.
